DUST NETWORKS JOINS ZIGBEE ALLIANCE
Hayward, CA, (April 26, 2010)—Dust Networks®, the leading supplier of wireless sensor networks (WSN), today announced that it has joined the ZigBee® Alliance. The ZigBee Alliance is an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked, monitoring and control products based on an open global standard. ZigBee technology will be embedded in a wide range of products and applications across consumer, commercial, industrial and government markets worldwide. The ZigBee Alliance standardized its ZigBee specification on top of the Physical (PHY) and Medium Access Control (MAC) layers of the IEEE 802.15.4 global standard; adding the application profile layers, security and network layers to create ZigBee.
In 2009, ZigBee Smart Energy™ was included by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the initial list of standards for the Smart Grid roadmap. The ZigBee Alliance recently announced its plans for ZigBee Smart Energy 2.0, which will provide an IP-based energy management solution that is MAC and PHY agnostic, and will allow for expanded use of ZigBee in new areas and configurations.
“Dust Networks new family of ultra-low power IEEE 802.15.4 SoCs will provide an excellent platform for ZigBee applications. We have a long standing commitment to delivering standards-based WSN products. The addition of ZigBee networking capabilities to our product portfolio later this year will allow our customers to access the broadest range of standards-based networking options in the industry”, said Brenda Glaze, Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “We are particularly pleased that the ZigBee Alliance will be offering an IP-oriented solution for ZigBee Smart Energy. Prospective product manufacturers will value the fact that Dust Networks’ ZigBee offering will consume less energy than any competing solution.”
