DUST NETWORKS EXPANDS MARKET REACH, RAISES ADDITIONAL VENTURE CAPITAL

Dust Networks’ new round of funding targets “Smart Infrastructure” opportunities

Hayward, CA, (October 26, 2009)—Dust Networks®, the leading supplier of standards-based wireless sensor networking products, announced they have raised an additional $9.5M in venture capital to fund their expansion into the Smart Infrastructure market. Investors include Cargill, Crescendo Ventures, Foundation Capital and Institutional Venture Partners.

Dust Networks established itself as the market leader for industrial wireless sensing when its Time Synchronized Mesh Protocol (TSMP) was adopted as the foundation for the WirelessHART standard. Now leading industrial sensing solutions are powered by Dust’s SmartMesh™ embedded wireless products, including those from Emerson Process Management, Endress + Hauser, GE Energy, GE Sensing and Phoenix Contact.

Dust Networks’ Internet Protocol (IP)-based wireless mesh network products will provide the communications infrastructure for emerging efficiency improvement applications such as Smart Energy, Smart Cities and Smart Buildings. Dust Networks has been a key participant in the recent IP connectivity demonstrations sponsored by the Internet Protocol for Smart Objects (IPSO) Alliance. SmartMesh®-powered products have already been deployed in a wide range of applications around the globe, from monitoring operations on offshore oil rigs, to reporting the temperature of chemicals in tank railcars, to improving the energy efficiency of corporate data centers.

“Despite the challenging economic environment, the demand for efficiency-oriented applications has grown,” said Joy Weiss, CEO at Dust Networks. “This round of funding allows us to increase our focus on these emerging applications. The addition of intelligent instrumentation and IP-based wireless communications to infrastructure enables a whole new level of efficiencies, and a new class of smart services.”
