Process instruments such as temperature transmitters, level transmitters and valves make up the core of any process. These devices, while extremely reliable, rely on mechanical components that do fail. Most modern instruments have rich management functions and diagnostic information, but are not digitally connected, leaving those functions “stranded”. Wireless is making digital connection a reality with use of loop-powered retrofit adapters that enable a configuration and management channel without interrupting or impacting the analog loop. The new WirelessHART standard explicitly supports a new class of loop-powered retrofit adapters that will unlock the stranded information in over 24 million installed devices. Only SmartMesh-enabled adapters will have the ability to offer full performance on loop-scavenged power.

Device Configuration:

Instruments can now be configured from the control room using intelligent protocols such as HART and Foundation Fieldbus via a wireless channel.

Valve Diagnostics:

Complete valve profiles can be uploaded via the wireless channel without interrupting communication on the analog control loop.

Instrument Maintenance:

Instruments can be upgraded, calibrated, and reconfigured as needed via the wireless channel.
